CRED accelerates fintech development workflows with Claude

CRED and Anthropic Logos

CRED, a fintech platform serving over 15 million users across India, uses Claude to transform their software development lifecycle and deliver features faster without compromising quality.

With Claude, CRED achieved:

  • 2x faster execution speed for delivering features and fixes
  • 10% increase in test coverage across existing codebases
  • Greater testing and observability coverage
  • Independent end-to-end project delivery for previously lower-priority initiatives

Streamlining development cycles with agentic coding

CRED operates a financial technology platform that enables customers to manage credit cards, track credit scores, and monitor financial activity while earning rewards for timely payments.

The engineering team needed to accelerate development cycles while maintaining high-quality standards essential for financial services.

Our approach to AI at CRED was to rethink our core workflows to create a flywheel of faster research and decision-making cycles, driving higher-quality execution,” the team explained.

CRED needed an agentic coding solution to help them streamline processes across the entire software development lifecycle, from solution discovery and design to implementation and testing.

Choosing Claude for superior programming performance

CRED's evaluation process led them to select Anthropic's Claude models over alternatives.

”We chose Anthropic's Claude models for their performance in programming-related tasks,” the team said.

Their adoption journey included two key inflection points that drove broader adoption and deeper usage across the development team.

The release of Claude Sonnet 3.7 significantly improved instruction handling and reasoning capabilities. However, the launch of Claude Sonnet 4.0 delivered the performance CRED needed.

"With Claude Sonnet 4.0's enhanced ability to follow instructions and act with precision, we've seen both broader adoption and deeper usage," they shared. Sonnet 4's ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps proved essential for their workflows.

It also outperformed other models in iterative development workflows, particularly the Build-Test-Fix loop. This ensured greater accuracy and reliability, critical factors for a fintech platform handling sensitive financial data.

Accelerating delivery while improving code quality

After seeing success with the API to help automate parts of their design automation suite, the team underwent testing to implement Claude Code with powerful results. Claude Code is Anthropic's command line tool that enables developers to delegate coding tasks directly from their terminal. CRED used Claude Code to enhance their development process across multiple dimensions:

  • End-to-end development lifecycle: Developers rely on Claude Code for identifying incremental solutions to writing, testing, and committing code across both new and existing projects
  • Complex task breakdown: Claude Code breaks down complex problems into manageable steps while maintaining structured context management through features like Claude.md
  • Repository documentation: The tool generates clear, structured documentation for existing codebases, making them easier to understand and maintain across teams

These capabilities translated into immediate productivity gains that transformed CRED’s development approach. The tool enabled a fundamental shift toward agentic coding, solution discovery, and documentation.

"Our execution speed has improved by 2x, allowing us to deliver features and fixes faster," the team reported.

This acceleration didn't compromise quality; with Claude Code powered by Sonnet 4.0, they achieved a 10% increase in test coverage across existing codebases, leading to more robust and reliable software. The streamlined workflow also resulted in more reliable commits through better solution documentation.

Perhaps most significantly, Claude Code empowered team members to independently drive projects end-to-end.

"Claude Code has empowered team members to independently drive projects end-to-end,” they explained. “As a result, initiatives that were previously lower on the priority list are now being taken up and completed faster, helping us accelerate delivery on work that might have remained on hold."

Building toward agentic development workflows

CRED envisions a future where AI transforms not just individual coding tasks but entire development methodologies.

”Next, our goal is to move toward agentic execution, where developers primarily focus on reviewing pull requests while Claude Code takes on the bulk of coding and testing," the team said.

Their roadmap includes implementing repository-level knowledge indexing, enabling the system to deeply understand and leverage the context of complex, multi-repository environments. The ultimate vision involves training Claude Code to make coordinated changes across multiple repositories using different programming languages, allowing developers to work end-to-end with greater efficiency and deliver larger impact across CRED's platform. CRED's transformative results underscore why Anthropic is growing it's investments in India this year, enabling deeper partnerships with the country's most innovative enterprises.
